This article will show how to send push notifications to Members from the Email Tool. Take note, Push notifications are delivered by Apple and Google utilizing their proprietary push technology; they do not guarantee delivery. Listed subscribers are those who have indicated they wish to receive notifications, but actual delivery depends on device specific settings.


The following are situations in which a person may not receive a push notification but are not limited to these:

  • A person can manually shut off push notifications.
  • A person's device may be shut off.
  • A person's device may not have internet access or cellular connection.
  • A person's device may not be locatable by the push notification service.
  • A person's device may be in airplane mode.
  • A person is not logged in to the JL app at the time the notification is sent.


Required access:

You will need the Email Administrator or Administrator access level to send push notifications


How to get there: 

  • From the Member Portal homepage, go to Admin > Member Management.
  • Find Email


Steps to be taken:

  1. There are three different ways to send a push notification.
    • GroupShare - select a GroupShare group
    • Access Group - select an access group. If you want to send a message to your membership, choose the All Members access group. 
    • Individual Recipients - select individual account names 
  2. Next, choose Push Notification below What Type of Message Would You Like to Send?
  3. Select Continue.
  4. You will see a list of Group Members currently registered to receive push notifications.
  5. Select Continue.
  6. Below Push Notification Message, enter the text for the message you want to send. There is a 256 character limit.
  7. In the Action that Happens When You Tap the Message, you have options such as Show Extended Message or Enable Reply to Me.
     
  8. If you select Show Extended Message, you can enter a longer message. If the recipient taps on the notification, they will see the message.
  9. If you select Enable Reply to Me and the recipient taps on the notification, they can send a reply to your message.
  10. Click on Send Message to send your push notification.
  11. Your members will receive the notification on top of the app or as a banner on their home screen.
